Built by people who just wanted a proper game.
The Gujarati Cricket League was started by a committee of cricket enthusiasts in the UK who wanted to do one thing: promote the sport in their community, and give people a serious competition to play in.
Plenty of good cricketers here never get a proper game. They have aged out of club cricket, or never found a way in, or they play the occasional friendly and want something with a table and a trophy at the end of it. That is who this is for.
So we are building a league that is competitive and organised to a professional standard, but open to anyone who wants to enter a team. Eleven a side, hardball, T20. A season, a structure, and a result that counts for something.
The league has its roots in the UK's Gujarati community — that is where the committee comes from and where the idea started. It is not a restriction. Any team is welcome to enter, from anywhere in England, whoever is in it.
Four things we are not willing to compromise on.
Played properly
Eleven a side, hardball, twenty overs. Not a knockabout. If you are giving up a Sunday, the cricket should be worth the drive.
Open to everyone
No club affiliation, no trials, no qualifying route. If you can put a side together and every player is over eighteen, you can enter.
Something beyond the trophy
There is prize money for the winners, and a share of what the competition takes goes to charity. The committee is choosing which.
Run by volunteers
Nobody here is drawing a salary. The league is organised by a committee of cricket enthusiasts in their own time.
Season one is July 2027, and entries are open now.
We are taking registrations while grounds are secured and the field is set. Registering does not commit you to anything — it puts your team on the list and starts a conversation.
